Bricklaying runs in our blood. I learned the trade from my father, who has been laying bricks for over 55 years — and to this day, we still work side by side on jobs together. That kind of experience isn't something you can shortcut. It's passed down course by course, job by job, and it shows in every wall we build.
When you hire Belo Brick, you're not getting a faceless crew. You're getting two generations of tradesmen who genuinely care about the result — because our reputation is built on every single job we do.

We're based in Bentleigh and service Greater Melbourne. Coverage is strongest across the south-east and bayside — Bentleigh, Brighton, Caulfield, Malvern, Ormond, McKinnon, Moorabbin, Cheltenham, Mentone, Oakleigh, Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley — and we regularly travel east, north and west including Camberwell, Balwyn, Box Hill, Ringwood, Frankston, Berwick, Point Cook, Werribee and Craigieburn.
Bricklaying is normally priced per 1,000 bricks laid, per square metre for paving, or per lineal metre for fences. The final figure depends on brick type, site access, scaffold requirements, wall height and how much preparation is needed. See our price guide above for indicative ranges — then call for a free itemised quote within 48 hours, with no hidden extras.
Yes — it's one of the most common things we're asked for on extensions and repairs. We identify the original brick by size, colour, texture and bond, then source a current equivalent or reclaimed stock from Melbourne suppliers and salvage yards. Where an exact match no longer exists we'll recommend a deliberate contrast detail instead, because a near-miss is far more noticeable than an intentional change.
As a general rule in Victoria, a building permit is required for a retaining wall over one metre in height, and engineering may be required regardless of height if the wall supports a driveway, a structure, or a neighbouring property. Requirements vary between councils and by site, so always confirm with your local council or a registered building surveyor before you start. We build to the engineering specification and can point you to what your council will want to see.
A typical residential front brick fence takes roughly three to seven working days on site, depending on length, pier count, footing depth and whether existing structures need removing. Footings need time to cure before laying starts, and wet weather can push the program out. You get a scheduled start and finish date in your quote.
Yes. Belo Brick & Block operates under ABN 74 298 453 189 and carries public liability insurance. Certificates of currency are available on request before work starts.
Repointing means raking out failed mortar joints and replacing them with fresh mortar. Your brickwork likely needs it if the mortar crumbles when you scratch it, joints are visibly recessed, there are gaps letting water in, or you're seeing damp inside. On older Melbourne homes, matching the original mortar strength matters — a hard modern cement mortar on soft old bricks will chew the brick faces up over time.
Yes. A large share of our work is external brickwork for new residential builds and dual occupancy projects, working directly with builders and project managers. We work to the construction program, coordinate around scaffold and crane bookings, and handle the detail work — circular columns, curved entries, arches and feature banding.
Bricks are smaller clay units laid in bonds for both structure and appearance. Blocks are larger concrete units, usually used where strength or speed matters more than looks — garage walls, retaining structures, sheds and internal load-bearing walls. We do both, and often combine them: blockwork behind for structure, face brick in front for finish.
